The Shiva Eye is shell made of calcium carbonate as are most shells. The body colour is white but its lovely swirl may vary in colour.
The eye of the Shiva shell is the “trap door” or Operculum of the shell the snail organism enters and exits through.
They are named after the Hindu God, Shiva.
The shell represents the Third Eye found in many depictions of the God.
Folklore says that Shiva Eye Shells are “Mermaids' Money” and bring good luck to travelers and fishermen.
It is believed that Shiva Eye Shells are a symbol of protection and that they ward off the evil eye.
Shiva Eye Shells are Fossils that have been shaped to make beautiful collectable pieces that are lovely to both display and to hold. These particular specimens approximately measure between 2 cm to 3cm high and 3.5cm to 4cm across. Each one has a lovely swirl on one side.
